Yellow Brick Road was a mobile creative play service covering Craven and the Dales, the
South Lakes and North Lancashire. The service was aimed at children under
twelve, and their parents, carers and educators. It was staffed by a
group of qualified and experienced play workers, artists, musicians
and performers. It ceased operating when the North Craven Childrens
Centre opened.
Yellow Brick Road:
-
engaged the imagination of children
and adults
-
encouraged creative play, art,
music and dance
-
buildt confidence in self-expression
-
enhanced social skills
-
provided stimulating creative
resources
-
supported the curriculum needs
of schools and other educators
-
supported people working with
children to develop
their own approach to encouraging imaginative
expression
A visit from the Yellow
Brick Road team resulted in an amazing transformation of space using
fabric and floor mats, story boxes and dressing-up costumes. Music,
dance, shadow play, storytelling, performance and ‘messy play’ gave
children (and adults who couldn't resist joining in) the chance to
explore, create and relate to others in their own imagined worlds.
Yellow Brick Road also provided training events for parents, carers,
childcare workers, teachers, ancillary staff, and anyone working
with children.
Yellow Brick Road
resources, including costumes, musical instruments, playmates
and the amazing yellow brick road stepping stones are available
to hire.
